The Making Meaning® program was published in 2003 and is being used nationwide. In field-test schools, student scores on the district assessment of reading comprehension were significantly higher after the first year of use. A larger evaluation study is now underway.
Details of the field-test study:
- Seven schools in Newark, CA
- 2,910 students in grade 1–6
- One year of instruction
- Assessments using the district's reading comprehension test
- Results show Year 2003 performance significantly better than Year 2002 (p <.0001)
